what do you think about jw spanking their kids at the kingdom hall?

Nice points WTWIZARD, I taught public school for seven years and any attempt at interesting or entertaining learning was stiffled by administration. The last school I taught at was all about submission to authority, nothing else. Imagine making twelve year old kids walk in lines and remain absolutely silent for seven hours, including lunch. I addressed these issues with the head principal and she did nothing, so one day I just walked out.

As far as spanking at the hall, I had a few of those myself. In fact it is sometimes a topic for discussion with my therapist.

anyone else feel inadequate

over the past 10 years ive tried coming back to the truth only to find myself back in the world doing silly things again and again.

i am onnce again determined to come back to the truth but feel that i am beyond redemption.

i feel ashamed going to talk to the elders cause they have dealt with me on two other occasions once being disfellowshipped 10 years ago and reproved two years ago.

I agree with hope4others. The great majority of the people that post on this website do not favor the jehovahs witness organization. As a suggestion, ask yourself if what you have done to "sin" are really sins or just the jehovahs witness guilt trip indoctrination.

Went to the Memorial Last Night

the hall i went to had some guy from bethel who literally sounded like a 12-year-old giving the talk.

all i could think about was v's video about the memorial and how it's nothing but an infomercial for jehovah's witnesses.

i realized why the memorial is "so important" to jehovah's witnesses: it's their biggest recruiting day of the year!

Good point about the memorial being an infomercial. Just a load of total bull shit. I am so happy that I didn't attend. I remember that about three years ago I went with my parents in Vegas and they had it at some community college aud. Anyway, I bought and read the book by Kafka 'the metamorphisis' and my father accidently dropped the bread on the floor when he passed it to me. I don't think either one of us cared. He is still and elder, but I know he thinks the thing is nothing but bull shit, but i am sure he wont admit it.

It is worth it to get out. My experience is similar except I am the one that left the JWs and the wife. But it is worth it. I couldn't live the lie anymore and when your entire social structure is attached to the group like my ex wife's was, I knew I had to leave. It does take a lot of "balls" and causes great emotional stress, but to anyone that is hanging in their life as a JW, my advice is to leave as quickly as possible and you'll see that the benefits outweigh the consequences greatly, especially as time goes on.

on the other hand, there is a popular bumpersticker which reads "nothing fails like prayer".. what has been your experience in this regard?

did god answer your most heartfelt prayers, or were they ignored?.

There's an episode of Futurama where Bender floats away in space and Fry wants to find him. So, Fry goes to the church and asks the minister, is there anything we can do to find Bender? and the minister says, "we can pray." Then Fry says, "Is there anything we can really do to find Bender?" The minster responds, "NO"

No, but i never really prayed much. When i first left the organization i told my mother that i didn't believe in god and she responded by telling me to pray more. Think of how illogical that is.

Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT stupid!

after several years 'out' i can't be the only one who still gets a bit pissed off to hear 'oh so clever' apostates slagging off jw's for being dumb, stupid and worse.

grow up!

the beliefs of jehovah's witnesses are certainly stupid but then i'd say the same for all christian belief just as many of you might condemn my atheistic, evolutionary postion as being nonsense.

JW's seem to have a cross section of liabilities. It astounds me how gullible they can be. My excuse is also being raised in it, so I often wonder why my parents got involved and my only answer could be untreated mental illness and the Vietnam war. After all my father didn't want to go to war (which is smart), so I think he either lost his mind then became a "minister". As far as being stupid, it is a very narrow description.

some quick advice for faders re: level of field service activity.

btw, this assumes you have no problem turning in "fluffed up" hours as part of a reverse "theocratic warfare" strategy.

if you really don't care one way or the other whether you turn in a field service report, turn one in at least every 6 months with one hour of "time" on it.

i used to report so much time and really never went out in service. sometimes i'd report 90 or 100 hours a month and maybe actually went out 2 or 3 hours.

The angst of dealing with family when they are still in and you are not...

i don't think you ever truly make peace with it, somehow you learn to maneveur and swim in it like most things.

i have been out for so long, it's almost like a shadowy memory when i was in, but for my family it is all they have ever known and dared to know.. i feel for the people whose parents have cut them out completely, but mine never truly did that.

i guess we just loved each other a little too much to even think about losing the other completely.

The only family member that still contacts me is my mother. When I first left, i entered therapy and my mother warned me by saying that the therapist may "tell me not to talk to my family." Well, I thought about it for a second and said back to her, "Isn't that what the organization tells you to do to me?" She was stunned and couldn't respond. I have since decided to shun my family in return. It is definitely better for my mental health.

What are your lame memories of events growing up as a J-Dub?

sorry this post is so long but i had to tell this story like most of you here, i grew up as a j-dub and have many memories of many extremely lame events that we had to endure (mainly because of some bone-headed elder, or holier-then-thou pioneer).

i'll never forget probably one of the lamest things that took place growing up as a j-dub.

this one kid (bless his heart, he really tried hard to be cool) in a neighboring hall tried to throw a get-together for all of the young kids in the different local halls.

Everything was lame. My group of jw friends never did anything really bad, but were in trouble all the time. Constantly talked to about playing music in a band, alcohol on our breathe, even when we didn't drink, and all sorts of other bull shit. We really had to will our way to have a fulfilling social life.
